What does the work consist of?
The Roustabout is typically the entry level position when starting offshore and can be compared with a deck cadet on a ship.
The Roustabout reports directly to the Assistant Crane Operator, and is responsible for carrying out work in connection with loading/unloading operations, general maintenance and cleaning jobs, and assistance to the drill floor crew.

What do I need to know to hold the position?

The Roustabout is willing to learn and is interested in an offshore career. A background as a craftsman and some experience working offshore is regarded as an advantage.

BOSIET, MIST and Offshore Health / Medical certification are preferred

How do I get there?

As the Roustabout position is an entry level position, basic school education as per local legislation is the only requirement. You need to be physically fit and interested in an offshore career.

    Dear,

A few years ago it was my dream to work in an offshore position. After getting some information about it, I got the instruction to first get some practice onshore. So I started as a cargo surveyor in the oil business (SGS) in the port of Antwerp.
Now, more than 5 years of blending Gasoil and Gasoline products as well taking a lot of samples, calculating quantities, checking qualities and so on I hope to be ready to get a step closer to my dream.
    Qualifications/trainings include the following:
    * IFIA certified
    *VCA (same as SCC)
    *Enclosed spaces
    *Compressed Air
    *Fire Fighting
    *First Aid
    *Petroleum Blending and additives
    *SGS ‘The silent assassin’ (H2S)
    *…

So I was wondering if I have a chance to make it to the offshore business already or do you recommend me to follow some additional training / get some more work experience?

Thanks a lot taking your time reading this message and hopefully provide me with an answer.

    Yours faitfully

    Ben
